Why is it called an Ice Cream Sundae?

In 1881, George Hallauer walked into his favorite ice cream shop and ordered an ice cream soda. But recent ”Blue Laws” made it illegal to sell soda (a scandalous drink) on Sundays, so the proprietor gave him a big scoop of vanilla ice cream and smothered it with chocolate syrup, previously reserved for ice cream sodas. Even though it was missing a key ingredient (soda), the concoction became a fad, and people started asking for the "Sunday Treat" every day. It was spelled ”Sundae” to avoid any association with the religious Sabbath. That idea of a missing ingredient inspired the team at Sundae, 138 years later, to become "Homebuyers with Heart." They buy homes that need some extra love (and a good general contractor) at a generous price. People selling distressed homes are often in a tough spot, and Sundae’s process is designedto help them (including a $10K cash advance and the option to move on your own timeline). They are a Founders Fund backed company with product-market fit, scaling revenue, and a massive addressable market opportunity. Their team is comprised of seasoned leaders from real estate and marketplace businesses and with significant high-growth company experience (Airbnb, Dropbox, Chime, LendingHome). Andrew Swain, Co-Founder at Sundae (and the former CFO at AirBnB), is searching for the company’s first engineering hire. They have two roles open for Full-Stack engineers, a director of engineering and a full-stack engineer. Sundae is an incredibly well-funded pre-Series A company with a seasoned leadership team and proven product-market fit. This is an awesome opportunity to get in on the ground floor and help shape both the engineering culture and the tech stack at the company for the foreseeable future. Must have a big heart to apply.
